Benedict Morelli has had his domain spread far and wide. Not only compensation cases, he has been very experienced in handling law suits relating to sports. He has fought the cases of several promising and well known sports stars across the world and has won those cases with flying colors: the Morelli style!
One of the landmark cases in Benedict Morelli’s career has been the case of famous women’s tennis star, Eugenie Bouchard. Bouchard suffered a dangerous and almost a fatal fall after she was coming back from a media conference at Flushing Meadows on 4th September 2015. She had alleged the United States Tennis Association(USTA) for acts of negligence. The reason of the fall, as stated in the papers drafted by her lawyers headed by Morelli, was a “slippery, foreign and dangerous substance”. The accident was so severe that she suffered from concussion which ultimately resulted in her dropping out of the event. Morelli had stated in an interview after the win of this epic case that the substance which the authorities used to clean the floor was the same one which caused this dreadful accident. Under no circumstances the substance should have been in use when the locker room was availed by the players and the authorities during the course of the tournament.
The locker room had CCTV cameras installed and Morelli planned to cash in on those footages to prove the case. But while scanning the footages, the experience of Morelli came in handy when he could figure out that the footage had been tampered with. He alleged the USTA authorities of forging with the footage so that they can brush aside the allegations put forward by the opposition. Morelli had made a request to the authorities for the genuine and original footage which was ignored by the USTA. Because of the experience of Benedict Morelli, Bouchard could be rest assured of the case taking turns in her favour while she could concentrate on her game and not let that one incident ruin her career. The lawyers had claimed millions of dollars as compensation from the authorities and they presented such a strong case in Eugenie Bouchard’s favour that the case finally turned towards her. The authorities were accused of "knowingly and willfully destroying security camera footage". The three hour footage that was handed over to Morelli was the one which was recorded from the camera placed outside the women’s locker room. Morelli had asked them to hold on to the footage recorded from other cameras but the USTA bypassed the claims in the pre-motion letter saying that the footage was only slated to be saved for 160 days.
Morelli lately said in an interview that the details of the case always hinted at the authorities for being responsible for the ugly turnout of events that could have ended the career of such a promising tennis star. Here in this case too Morelli did what he is best known for, supporting his clients and dealing with the issue as if it is his own.
